Zach Collins to undergo shoulder surgery, expected to be ready for next season

San Antonio Spurs center Zach Collins is set to undergo surgery after suffering a torn labrum in his right shoulder during the team's regular-season finale against the Detroit Pistons. The injury occurred as he contested a shot against Pistons center James Wiseman, leading to a dislocated shoulder and a torn labrum. Despite the setback, Collins is expected to be ready for the 2024-25 season after undergoing surgery in the coming days. This injury comes as a blow to Collins, who signed a two-year extension with the Spurs at the start of the season and has been a key contributor in the team's lineup.

Collins began the season as the Spurs' starting center before transitioning to a bench role in December. Despite this change, he played in 69 games, starting a career-high 29 of them and averaging 11.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Throughout his seven-year NBA career, Collins has faced various injury challenges, particularly during his time with the Portland Trail Blazers. However, he showed resilience last season with 63 games played and came into training camp prepared for a strong performance with San Antonio. Despite the setback, Collins remains a valuable asset for the Spurs with his scoring ability and outside shooting, evidenced by his career-high 58 3-pointers made this season.
